Initially I was pretty good. I prepared my own foods, ate boiled egg snacks with sweet paprika and no mayo and scoured the web for sugar-free 10 minute consumables for those between meal times when the mood is becoming irritable and the energy is low. After while, and also any time when you have an interruption or a change to your schedule, meal planning can be a hassle.
Actually, I plan ahead nutritionally better than ever before. But there is something in me that resists a schedule. If I am planning main meals and 80-90% of my snacks then occasionally I deserve a grab n' go.
Enter baby food! It can be expensive. Admittedly I usually wait till special offers to bulk buy. Then you can get fine deals that won't hit your pocket for the sake of health (another bugbear). Enter my £1 specials.
The bars below were on offer at Asda, our major supermarket in Llandudno, where I live. Two flavours, the 'Apple & Orange' and 'Carrot Cake' varieties, were approximately £1 for 6. That's 17p per bar (to the nearest penny). Not bad value!
Scoll to the bottom of the page to read about a base ingredient you can afford to live without, 100% fruit puree pots...
Money-wise both category products can compete with pound shop and supermarket offers on chocolate bars, a big temptation when you're low on cash flow. An even bigger draw for my picks is that the sugar content is from natural, fruit based, non chemical sources (although it is concentrated in the bars and the oil content is quite high @12% per 30g bar).
